Two trees are emblematic of Pretoria: jacaranda trees and coral trees (let's make it four: monkey thorns and sweet thorns). The city would be much the poorer without them.

A particularly large, prolific sacred coral tree (Erythrina lysistemon) near me, flowering in winter. ‘Splendid’ and ‘excellent’ garden subjects, according to the Coates Palgraves.

Jacarandas and blesbokke (lit. ‘bald antelopes’) in the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary, another of Harry Bruins-Lich's projects.
